Manchester Met University and Wordlife have just launched a new digital writing map for the city of Manchester. We are distributing a call for submissions for writers to submit work about Manchester to be added to the Writing Manchester map. http://writingmanchester.com/
.
Write a poem inspired by any physical location in the city, anywhere we can pin on the map (crucially it needs a postcode) – so it could be a building, public space, road, landmark – your choice. We are looking for submissions from a range of styles and disciplines, from established poets to those published for the first time. The website is a unique digital platform that as well as text has the ability to embed other types of media alongside it; These could be a video (youtube and vimeo), photo, photo gallery, audio-recordings and hyperlinks within the text itself.
Deadline: 10th April 2017
.
The website contains other information about the local literature scene of the city and the idea is to encourage the cross pollination of audiences across all the realms of Manchester’s vibrant literature scene. The ability to upload images and audio files means you could even add some artwork inspired by the location or an audio recording of you reading it – so if you prefer the spoken word, there is an outlet for you.
.
Work needs to be emailed to manchesterpoems@gmail.com, preferably in the body of the email please with a postcode (and name of the particular location if a certain building, place etc) and a single image – an image of the location itself is ideal.
.
Poems will be considered on their individual merit and exploration of the location chosen and their use of the extra digital elements that ‘Writing Manchester’ allows. This call for submissions is part of a student-led project to add content to the map. As such unfortunately there is no fee available for successful submissions.
.
In your email you must confirm it is your own poem and that you grant us permission to post it – plus a line or two about yourself if you would like. Thanks so much – happy writing!
